The project might have needed no modifications, or very few modifications.

"Performance management" might encourage quantity rather than quality. Instead of none or one or two necessary or desirable modifications, there might be hundreds of unnecessary and undesirable modifications ?

Proper analysis and planning

Now, to all of you software engineers in the automobile industry or free thinkers, suppose you are presenting your knowledge and findings to managers to break into software market for automobile software industry, what are the challenges based on your own perspectives of producing software (embedded or not) for automotive industry? Addressing aspects in SE as well as project management SE issues (E.g. requirements engineering, quality specifications, safety critical oriented). Thanks.

This question is too difficult to get a reasonable answer from this forum. You need to do loads of research to understand what the industry currently gets and actually wants/expects

Hi All,

We want to be a Registered Education Provider (R.E.P) for PMI, USA. As mentioned at PMI website – http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment/Pages/Become-a-Registered-Education-Provider.aspx

the top criteria are:

- Show organizational maturity and be a legal organization that has offered project management training for at least one year
- Provide evidence of quality product design, delivery and content
- Show that course content is consistent with PMI global standards or offers differing or new concepts that are clearly indicated as such in marketing and instructional materials
- Properly award PDUs for course completion
- Offer proper R.E.P. marketing representation

We are planning to start off and hence do not meet the first criteria. We can present all other needed material as required by PMI.

Could you please inform:

- If individuals can come up and request for being REP by presenting their Bios, experience in Project Management and providing various trainings related to management in their earlier organization in their individual roles/responsibilities
- If there is any other way you can be associated with a current R.E.P and launch your own program
- If you can associated with any other organization which provides management training and launch your program via them.
- If any other route.

Your help and guidance on this aspect is highly appreciated.

Hi,

I am myself a PMP Trainer and I am pursuing the PMI R.E.P. status. Unfortunately, I must tell you that there is no way around the rules that the PMI has set up. You have to follow the rules in order to become a PMI R.E.P.

What I am doing in the meantime is twofold:
1.) build partnerships with companies that are PMI R.E.Ps and they have agreed to include some of my trainings
2.) offer category 4 PDU courses. These courses/PDUs are just as valid as category 3 PDUs.

Until next time,
Cornelius Fichtner, PMP

I’m on a project where it seems that senior management has pushed difficult decision making down the organization. One of the things we are goind is trying to decide if adding more resources to our testing effort would indeed help the overal delivery date of the project or if this would only succeed to create much unwanted overhead and really not resulting much of an improvement on the date of the delivery.

I’d like to know if ‘throwing’ bodies at a testin effort really has an added value or if it just causes more of a quality issue.

Is the intent to increase the amount of testing, or to attempt the same amount of testing in a shorter period of time ?

If it’s the later it would seem like you would be have to be well organized, and that the testing would have to be modularized in such a way that it could be parcelled out to multiple people.

As I’m sure you’r aware, the communication challenges increase significantly as you add more people.

You would hope that there would be an optimal number of people to do the testing depending on the test plan and that you would staff to that level.

.. stab others in the back (metaphorically of course).

Take the Collins australian new construction submarine project – has ANYONE been complimented for good work well done.
It’s starting to look like the project was undone by performance management – that if there was poor quality work it was CAUSED by new fangled "performance management".
Terrific insight.

Thanks.

I heard a top person say "You’re surrounded by yes men".

Good observation.

The whole concept of "Performance Management" is the brainwashing of a group of lame brained yes-men and yes-women who pat themselves in the back for finishing a project by 1. getting cheapest labor 2. bullying the poorly paid workers and 3. Chintzing on parts cost and quality.

Now I am not saying this applies to any corporate project in particular but the theme is repeated ALL over the world, not just Australia.

One gets what one paid for.
