Hi, I have just enrolled for accounting and financial degree course hence I have checked the program list and noticed much differences among universities. My business studies epitomise:

lev1
introduction to bookkeeping and accounting
introd. to financial services
you and your money; personal finance in context

lev2
analysing data
business organisations and their environments
personal investment in an uncertain world

lev3
accounting for strategy implementation
certificate in accounting
managing 2; marketing and finance

plus 70 points I have chosen from:

lev2
financial accounting
management accounting
lev3
professional certificate in management APEL

‘Normal’ University courses contains for example:

lev1
Analysis of business
business environment
lerning and skills development in business
managing people, finance and marketing

lev2
financial accounting
advenced financial accounting
budgeting, planning and control
information systems
international business
Management accounting
Research skills

lev3
Auditing, Control and Communication
Ethics and governance
financial management
strategic management
advanced corporate reporting
strategic management accounting
taxation of UK corporate organisations
undergraduate major project

With all this differences I would feel like complete looser if I have pass all the exams without changing university.
What can I do in this situation?
Complete some modules and count them next year towards better university or it does not matter in this profession. I would also like to have completed some exams towards CIMA qualification during studies.

Ask in the departments where you’re thinking of studying any special slant the courses may have.

Often they emphasise the professor’s special interest.

I’m deciding whether I should change my major to this I want to become a hr manager so what are classes like is there a lot of math, projects, essays how are the tests etc. Also if I wanted to become a manager what are the steps I should take to achieve this goal
thanks

There is usually less advanced math (like calculus) but everything else depends on the teacher.

SUB : HR & PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

NO. 1
ENRICHING JOBS AT STANDARD DECOY
Standard Decoy in Witchell, has been making traditional wooden hunting decoys since 1927. Cyrus Witchell began the business by carving a couple of ducks a day by hand. Demand and competition have long since driven the company to use modern machinery and assembly-line techniques, and they now turn out two hundred ducks daily even on the slowest days.
When Steward Alcorn, Cyrus Witchells grandson, took over the business, he knew things needed to change. Output had not fallen, and the company was surviving financially despite competition from what he called plastic ducks from the Far East. But Alcorn noticed that the productivity per worker had stayed the same for ten years, even during the period since the company had bought the latest equipment. While touring the plant, he noticed many employees yawning, and he found himself doing the same. No one quit. No one complained, They all gave him a smile when he walked by. But no one seemed excited with the work.
Alcorn decided to undertake a survey. He appointed a respected worker at each step in the production process to ask each of his or her co-workers questions and to fill in response sheets. One conclusion emerged from the survey : The fine-tuners, as Alcorn thought of them, were the most content ones. That is, those who used fine tools and brushes to get the ducks heads, expressions, and feathers just right seemed to enjoy their work most. In contrast, the people who planed and cut the wood into blocks, rough cut the body shapes, spray painted the body colour, and applied the varnish were all pretty bored.
Alcorn had heard about a technique called job rotation and decided to try it out. He gave all workers a taste of the fun jobs. He asked for volunteers to exchange jobs for one morning a week. The fine-tuners were skeptical, and the other workers were only slightly more enthusiastic. The whole programme turned out to be a disaster. Even with guidance, the planers and the spray painters could not master the higher precision techniques, and the fine-tuners seemed to give them only limited assistance. After one trial week, Alcorn gave up.
During a lunch break that Friday, Alcorn was wandering outside around the plant bemoaning his failure. Then he noticed one of the rough-cutters, Al Price, whittling at something with an ordinary pocket knife. It turned out to be a block of wood that he had cut incorrectly and normally would have thrown in the scrap heap. But as Price said, It kind of looked like a duck, in an odd way, and he had started whittling on it in spare moments.
Alcorn liked what he saw and asked Price if he would be willing to sell him the duck when he got through with it. Price looked surprised, but he agreed. The following week, Alcorn noticed that Price had finished the whittling and was getting one of the fine-tuners to help him paint the duck in a way that made it look even odder. When it was finished, Alcorn offered it to one of his regular customers, who took a look at it and said, Youve got this hand made ? and asked if he could order a gross.
By the middle of the next month, Alcorns Odd Ducks programme was in full swing. Workers were still responsible for producing the usual number of conventional ducks, but they were allowed to use company tools and materials any time they wanted to work on their own projects. There were no quotas or expectations for the Odd Ducks. Some employees worked on for weeks. Others collaborated and produced one or two a day.
Some wouldnt sell their ducks but crafted them to practice their skills and brought them home to display on their mantels. Those who would sell them kept half the selling price. That price usually did not amount to more than their regular hourly wage, but no one seemed to care about the precise amount of income.
The response to the Odd Duck programme was so great that Alcorn put up a bulletin board he called Odd Letters, as a place to post appreciative notes from customers. Most of the customers, it seemed, had no interest in hunting but just liked to have the ducks around. And when Alcorn learned that some of his customers were in turn selling the ducks as Cyrus Witchells Olde Time Odd Ducks, he did not complain.

Questions :
1.How did the Odd Ducks programme enrich the jobs at Standard Decoy ?
2.What motivated workers to participate in marking the Odd Ducks ?

This is special education for those who have additional needs. Your question would be better posted in a different category.

For an upper level college management class, we have to do an origami and get graded on it. I am not artistic (hence majoring in business not art) but I need a VERY easy origami project (including step-by-step instructions) that looks cool/good/creative/etc. PLEASE HELP!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ORfFjxf_Rk – Origami Fireworks – this is one of my favorite models, did it many times. The video has good step by step instructions which are easy to follow and the result is spectacular!

Which of the following strategies is least likely to increase company profits?

a. Increasing sales while holding down production costs at all levels
b. Cutting steps out of the production while maintaining sales levels
c.Decreasing production costs while stimulating increased sales
d. Investing in new production assets to stay abreast of latest technologies
e. Basing decisions on the buying of new assets on projected Return-On-Investment (ROI)

I’d argue D. It’s implied new technology will lead to a higher utility (and thus higher profits), but it’s not guaranteed. If the new technology cost $40 million and your ROI is -$1 million… well, you know…

Of course, you could argue A, if they were losing money on every sale.

I purchased this home and 1 acre last January. Over the course of last summer, these hunting clubs built new levees and have altered the flow of rainwater. I have been flooded 2 times within a month, due to heavy rain. We know the history of this area and this is a new occurence. The levees hold back the rainwater from it’s natural runoff route, and it completely floods my property. The hunting club absentee owners do not seem inclined to remedy this problem. What steps should I take, or what agencies do I contact to have this corrected? There is a sign posted on one of the levees stating that they are cooperators in the North American Waterfowl Management Project. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer. And I need help as soon as possible.

First you need to buy flood insurance from the federal flood insurance agency. It takes 30 days to kick in so the faster you do it, the better.

Second you need to get a lawyer and file a lawsuit against the gun club and the American Waterfowl Management Project. In American common law, if a person changes water run off in such a manner as to cause damage to a neighbor, the person is responsible for the damages.

They will either have to modify their levees so that you suffer no damage or they will have to pay you for your damages. Make sure you have the disclosure of the previous owner stating he had no flooding problems as well as the flood report that says you were not in a flood plain. Go to Google Earth. They probably have pictures of your property BEFORE the levees were made. Download the pictures so you can show what things looked like before the levees went up. You can also get pictures from a plane of what it looks like now. The difference between the two will show what modifications they made.

One of the big clues you need is a topographical map of water run off from your property prior to the levees. Try a good topographic program as they often have elevation lines drawn. If you can show that water from your property had a free flow to a drainage ditch or stream prior to the levees and they blocked off the natural flow, you pretty much will have them in regards to the damage. If their levee blocks off the flow causing water to back up on your property, then you can easily show that with the pictures and maps and that goes a long way with the jury.

With a lawyer, you might be able to get an immediate court order that they have to OPEN the levee that prevents the water run off from your property until such time as it is all decided in court. A "cease and desist" order.

One last idea, they may actually want to buy your property. To have waterfowl, you need water and they basically turned your property into ideal land for waterfowl. Their actions may be part of a plan to get you to sell. It be their secret desire is to buy your land and add it to their hunting club.. Your lawyer can subpoena their club records as well as any meetings they had with the Waterfowl Management people to see if they discussed this as a possible outcome of their actions. If that is the case, you can prove conspiracy and get some very large bucks from the club and project manager.

Get a GOOD lawyer who has experience with this kind of issue, not just some guy around town. You may have to go a distance to get a good lawyer but it will be worth it.

i hav a project on role of govt non govt functionaries in disaster managemnt … hv to ask questions to diferent ppl in my locality(housewivs, police, college students, hotel managers, etc) about steps thy like to take or steps thy have taken to prevent disasters in their homes and workplace. can u help me wid the questions pls…
our state is mostly prone to disasters such as cyclones, floods, landslides and yh tsunamis.bt the questions should olso relate to man made disasters like burglary fire etc

here are some of the questions i put into it …

1) is there a fire extinguisher, fire alarm, or smoke detectors in ur workplace/ college?
2)do u practice mockdrills regularly in ur workplace?
3) were u aware of ur land being/not being a hazard prone area when u bought it?
4) does ur house have a gable or pyramidal roof?
5) do u have an insurance for ur property?

help plsss ….

I would have a questionnaire by order of importance and I think it would be something like this:

1) Do you have a person in charge of disaster readiness?
2) Does that person have disaster readiness plans?
2) Which area do they cover? Fire? flooding? etc.
3) Do the plans comply with the national or regional requirements?
4) Are the plans under regular revisions?
5) Are the plans drilled for and how often?
6) Do they involve disaster-fighting material?
7) How often is that material tested and maintained?
8) Is the property insured?
9) Are the plans verified by the insurer or other vetting authorities?
10) Do you have a liaison manager with the authorities?

Good luck with your project
