I agree with Andy – it’s a decent course to take if you already have some experience and want to "top up", but as a standalone course I doubt that it would be taken too seriously.

Does anyone have any advice or has anyone experienced online Prince 2 learning…. as this is not critical for my job the only way work will pay is if I do the online course.

It’s a requirement for any project management job in public service organizations and many larger companies.

IF you can convince you current employer to fund the course, I would always say ‘go for it’ !

The exam is in 2 parts and general opinion seems to be that one part is best studied by attending an actual training course whilst for the second, ‘book learning’ / on-line / ‘CBT ‘ (Computer Based Training) will suffice.

I regret to say that many so-called ‘online’ training courses are at best inadequate and at worse complete scams – if the provider ALSO offers actual hands-on courses led by a qualified instructor in a classroom, MAYBE their on-line courses are worth considering ..

To be honest, if you are unable to convince your Employer that this would be a useful skill for you to have & get them to at least give you ‘study leave’ and pay for the exams, I would say ‘don’t bother unless you are looking for a new job’ ..

How will it add value to my resume once I have done Prince 2? Do companies give it the same respect as they do for PMP?

Based on interaction with so many professionals PMP is more popular in India and and across the globe.

Prince2 has very good recognition in UK.
As far certification process is concerned Prince2 is more intense than PMP.

So you can go ahead with PMP unless you have specific markets in mind where Prince2 acceptance is higher.

In May 2010, The Prince of Wales addressed a meeting in Oslo at which over fifty Governments launched the REDD+ Partnership – an intergovernmental platform aiming to scale up actions and finance to reduce deforestation.

The Heads of State and ministers who attended the meeting in Oslo recognised the role played by The Prince of Wales and the work of the PRP in bringing the forest agenda to the attention of world leaders, business and the NGO community.

The PRP will now maintain a watching brief as the Governments and NGOs take the process forward. In addition, the work with the public, private and NGO sectors to reduce human pressures on forests will continue.

As part of this work, the PRP convened over twenty-five agricultural producers, processors and traders at the end of last year to discuss how to meet growing demand for commodities such as cocoa, palm oil, soya, cattle and cassava without causing further deforestation. Representatives from a number of companies gathered to present the outcomes of eight regional workshops that the PRP had convened in Ghana, Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia during 2010.

Addressing the audience of NGOs, governments, investors and businesses, The Prince of Wales said I am absolutely delighted that the companies from which you have heard today have worked so hard, in collaboration with NGOs and my International Sustainability Unit, to find ways to reconcile the apparently irreconcilable. A range of solutions were discussed such as increasing yields and productivity, restoring degraded or abandoned land, and reducing waste along the supply chains. I would just like to thank you for your support for The Princes Rainforests Project. As I write, the fate of the rainforests is, I think, more optimistic today than when The Prince of Wales launched the Project in October 2007. Deforestation in Brazil has fallen to its lowest rate for twenty-two years, despite a booming economy and increasing agricultural production. A significant number of countries are drawing plans to replicate this success. In addition, progress was made by the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December 2010 in Cancun when it was agreed to slow, halt, and reverse forest loss and the related emissions in developing countries (REDD+). However, despite these positive developments, the pressure on the rainforests grows no less as the demand for agricultural commodities continues to increase. Equally, as the recent droughts in Brazil demonstrate, the rainforests ecosystems are themselves vulnerable to the increasing severity and frequency of adverse climatic events.

The PRP is now part of The Princes Charities International Sustainability Unit (ISU). The ultimate goal of the ISU is to help build consensus on how to develop the durable solutions required to meet the challenges of climate change and natural resource depletion, with a focus on sustainable agriculture and fisheries management. My heart tells me nothing will come out of it!By the way when all the forests, seas, are not habitable any more, we follow suit!Ah! The natives of the world had it good, they live to love, they died when it was time, they were sustainable, and never contaminated the Earth! Now, sadly no matter how much anyone wants to make the forests or seas sustainable, it is too arid!The Earth is angry and is letting us know. As for Prince Charles, I do not believe.

I want to be a Project Manager in the next few years. I have a degree in Economics from India and I have a PRINCE 2 Foundation Qualification in Project Management. I work as a Project Support Officer. How do I take my career forward so that I can reach my goals?

I think you are already well prepared.
Some additional ideas:
Maybe, you might consider to continue working in project teams to gain experience, with high emphasis on project management. This is what we call learning by doing. To support your learning by doing you could keep a diary about your learning from daily project life.
Additionally, you could try to join courses about project management, preferrably classroom training in which PM training is combined with training on social skills (communication, teamwork, leadership, etc.).
For online project management training giving a basic introduction, you could check www.project-management-knowhow.com.

I have managed some small (non IT) projects in the past, now I want to change my field of work completely and get into Project Management full time and therefore want to get certified in Prince 2.

My question is, will Prince 2 certification help me secure a job inq project management even though I do not have much experience in the field and is IT experience necessary to secure a PM’ job in IT environment.

Hi – I am an accredited PRINCE2 trainer so hope I can help.

PRINCE2 Certification – yes it is likely to help you to find a job. Many project management job profiles list PRINCE2 as highly desirable if not mandatory. It is probably best to get the full Practitioner certificate.

IT Experience – in theory a project management job requires no technical knowledge of IT. In practice though many IT PM jobs will require it.
